Apple’s New iPad

It is finally here, a tablet for the Mac generation! It is called the iPad! At first glance, this is simply just a big iPod Touch, and that is basically what it is. On Wednesday, January 27, Apple held a keynote event to launch their new product. I was writing my finals, so I get to go home after I finish and I made it home in time to follow what was happening at the keynote. When I first saw iPad, I wasn’t too impressed, I was expecting more from Apple. Maybe it was just because I had such high expectations, but to me, this isn’t really as magical and worshipful as Apple claims it to be. But after a few minutes it started to grow on me. It really is a cool new product that has a lot of special and not so special features.

iBook Store:

This is probably the feature of the new iPad that appeals to me the most. This iPad now has a thing on it called the “iBook Store” and what that is, is basically a iTunes store for music, but with books. This allows you to buy all the books you want to be able to read them on the new 9.7″ screen. This feature basically makes this iPad the new Kindle. With that being said, the Kindle will sure lose their buyers once the iPad does come out.

iWork:

This is another one of the good feature of this new iPad. Once it is released, you will be able to buy the 3 parts of iWork for your iPad at just $9.99 each. With that you will be able to process in “Pages”, have some numeric fun in “Numbers”, and make kick ass presentations in “Keynote”. I have seen pictures from Apple’s event, and when they were demoing the iWork part, it looked really, really good. If you are going to get this iPad, you should definitely get the iWork suite.

Design:

The high-resolution, 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display on iPad is remarkably crisp and vivid. The Multi-Touch screen on iPad is based on the same revolutionary technology on iPhone. But the technology has been completely reengineered for the larger iPad surface, making it extremely precise and responsive. So whether you’re zooming in on a map, flicking through your photos, or deleting an email, iPad responds with incredible accuracy. And it does just what you want it to. So overall, it’s slightly smaller than a magazine. At just 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inch thin, you can take it anywhere. And a slight curve to the back makes it easy to pick up and comfortable to hold. You can use iPad for up to 10 hours while surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos, or listening to music.

Availability:

iPad is available with a choice of 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of flash storage, giving you lots of room for your photos, movies, music, apps, and more. You can either get a iPad model with just Wifi, or with 3G and Wifi. Both of these models come in the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions. As for when these become available, the Wifi only models will ship in 60 days, and the Wifi + 3G models will ship in 90 days.

Pricing:

For the pricing, the Wifi models pricing is as follows:

Wifi 16GB – $499.00

Wifi 32GB – $599.00

Wifi 64GB – $699.00

Wifi + 3G pricing is as follows:

Wifi + 3G  16GB – $629.00

Wifi + 3G 32GB – $729.00

Wifi + 3G 64GB – $829.00

Overall Thoughts:

Like I said in the beginning, I wasn’t too impressed with this new invention, but I am starting to like it. I think it looks really nice, and I like the way they incorporated the iBookstore and eBooks into this, it will make great competition for the Kindle. I will have to think long and hard about whether I should get this new iPad because I have things that do most of these tasks already. But you never know, I might end up getting one!

Orange Sena Walletbook Case for iPhone 3GS

I got this Orange Sena Walletbook case for my iPhone the other day in the mail. I ordered it on Wednesday night, and they shipped it FedEx express and it got here on Friday morning. I first saw these cases on the Apple website but they only had them in a black, and a scaly type black and red. I knew I didn’t want those colors so I thought I would check out their website and see what they had. So I found the Walletbook series on there and there were many different colors that you could choose from. When I saw the orange I knew I had to have it!

The main purpose I bought this case, was because I regularly go on trips with my family, and I thought it would be great if I could have my iPhone, and my money all in the same place. It has two slots for id or credit cards, and a little pocket underneath those slots for bills and things like that. Now it doesn’t replace a normal wallet because like me and most people, we have more than two cards, a lot more things in our wallets. This is just mainly for easy access to a couple of bills, maybe a credit, or debit card, and an ID. When I go away, I usually put all the bills I have in the bank and just use my card all the time, so for me, with a place to put that card, this is perfect for me.

The only thing that is a little complicated with this case is the dilemma of receiving a phone call. If your iPhone rings, you simply open up the flap, and slide to answer like normal, but when it comes to putting it up to your ear, what do you do? Well I have read places that people just fold back the wallet part and hold it up to their ear, but over time, the leather would start to crack and get loose. I have come up with a couple of solutions if you don’t just want to fold back the wallet part. You could answer and just say out loud, “could you hold on a sec,” and then just slide your iPhone out the side and hold it to your ear, you could also just slide it out before you answer, or just simply use speakerphone. Whatever suits you best!

This case is $52.00 and it’s about $10.00 to ship to Canada, or about $5.00 to the US. I also found a discount code that allows you to get 20% off anything on the Sena website, so I will post a link to their website, and the discount code at the end of this post. When everything was said and done, with the shipping to Canada, and the case itself, with the discount, it came to $51.59 which is cheaper than the actual case is! I saved $10.41 and I will also put a picture at the end showing the cost and total of everything!

So far, I am really liking this case. It is very slim and it is very inventive. The things people want to have very easy access to is their phone and their money, it truly serves it’s purpose and combines them both into one! If you are an owner of an iPhone 3GS or 3G, go get yourself one of these Sena Walletbook cases, you won’t be disappointed!

New Desk!

Just the other day, I decided it was about time I got a new desk. Of course, being the spoiled person that I am, my Dad went out and bought me this desk! I didn’t get it set up the night he bought it because I had a lot of homework and studying to do for my Finals but the next day, Friday night to be exact, my dad and I set up my desk. It is really great! I have a place now for my computer to sit on and still have a big place to do school word and things like that! That is ultimately what I wanted, was to be able to have a big space in my room where I could do my school work and have everything look organized! This is a really great desk for that, and now when I get my iMac, I will have a perfect spot to put it! I am really happy about how it turned out! I think it looks great!

10 Silicon Cases for the iPhone 3GS

I got these cases on eBay last week for about $2.00 with free shipping! I thought that was a great deal for 10 iPhone cases. Now they are only silicon, so they don’t offer complete protection of the iPhone like a hard shell case would, but they add protection from scratches and it also makes your iPhone look good with a different color on it! If you want to get something like this, just search eBay for 10pc Silicon iPhone 3GS cases.

Incase Slider Fluro Green!

I got this Incase Slider in the mail yesterday and I am extremely happy with it! It is from the Fluro series of the incase slider and it is the green, my favorite color of course! Not only does it look really, really nice, it is a great case!

I have used it for about a day now, and I absolutely love it! The thing I like the most about this case is that it lips up over around the edges of the screen and I really like that because if I ever dropped the iPhone and it landed on the screen, the screen wouldn’t hit the ground because it would be raised up a little bit from the sides.

Another thing I really like about this case is that it covers the bezel around the phone so it won’t get scratched either. And I really like the slider part of it because for it to fit in my dock, I just have to take off the bottom and I don’t have to remove the rest of the case to charge it. I just have so many things I like about this case! All the buttons have great cut outs so they are easy to access, and the camera hole is cut out perfectly!

This is going to be the case I use all the time! I didn’t get it from the “goincase.com” website because they don’t ship to Canada, only US addresses and I don’t live in the US, and Apple doesn’t have the Fluro series on their website and I really wanted a bright color, so I ordered it off of eBay, and it was still sealed in the original package! It was about $35.00, which is about the same price on the “goincase.com” website anyway so I didn’t pay anymore many or anything.

If you have one of these, let me know what you think of it, or even send me a picture of it and I will post it. I really recommend this case to anyone with a iPhone! It’s great for protection and it looks great too! You can get it in the fluro green, pink, yellow, orange, and blue I think!  So go get yourself a Incase Slider, you won’t be disappointed!

10 Colored iPhone Cases

I recently got these 10 different colored iPhone cases in the mail. I was supposed to get them for Christmas, but they were coming from Hong Kong, and didn’t get here on time. So I went and made a video of me opening them up and then at the end of that video instead of putting all the cases on and waste time, I just took pictures of each case and put them all at the end. The thing I like about these cases is that they have the apple logo, and the iPhone and 16GB thing all on the back, so the case looks exactly like the back of a iPhone but just gives it a nice color! One thing I noticed is that the ones with the smallar camera holes don’t go on the iPhone really well and seam to be a little small but the ones with the big camera holes go on great and look really nice. But overall, for paying $7.00 for all 10, it was a great deal and it’s a good way to add some color to your phone!

Blue iPhone Case

I got this case the other day and I actually really like it. I thought that it wasn’t going to be that good, but it actually is. It is a nice thick rubbery plactic kind of case and covers the silver besel on the front of the iPhone so that is nice and protected and now it won’t get scratched! All the ports are accessable and overall it looks really nice on the White iPhone because it makes the blue a lot more bright! I got this case on eBay for around $5.00 and it comes in many other colors like green, orange, yellow, pink, etc. I really like this case, and it’s one I use most of the time!

Happy New Year!

Just wanted to write this post to wish you all a very safe and happy new year! I can’t believe it is 2010 already! The years seem to be flying by and as I get older, it seems to go by faster.

This year I want to make a few resolutions to try to see if I can accomplish them all by the end of the year. My first is to simply study more and be even more organized than I already am. All my marks are in the 90%-98% range, and I even have the highest mark in my Computer Science class! The way I usually work is just by doing all my assignments and things and then studying for tests when they come up, but I could be focusing more on those things than being on the computer for the amount of time that I am. As for being organized, I would say I am pretty good at that. I keep all my notes, books, and assignments organized, and I also started this school year, keeping a binder, with all my subjects in it and all the notes I have accumulated typed up so when it comes to finals, I can easily just carry that binder and be able to study all my subjects. I call it my “Exam binder” and I do pretty good at keeping it up to date, but part of the being more organized resolution, I want to be able to update it weekly.

As for my second new year resolution, it would be to save as much money as possible, and to achieve that… stop eating fast food. I really have to stop going out to eat so much. Because I always have money, I just don’t even think about it and I go out and get something to eat. Not only is it draining my money, but probably my health too, and I don’t want that to happen. So this year I am going to try to limit my take out to once or twice a week, when normally it would be 3 or 4 times. I guess it’s just the kind of lifestyle I live, but I have to do something about it.

For my third and final new year resolution, it is going to be to keep up with my Online life. What I mean by that is keeping my blog up to date, making weekly or regular videos and getting to work on my special project that I have neglected for a while now. I am pretty good with updating my blog and website but when it comes to the videos, I don’t get as many out as I would like to. Now that I have a iPhone, I think it will be a lot easier to come up with videos.

All I really need to do this year is be able to manage my time well. I need to set time aside for my school life, home life, and online life. I know that might sound weird to think that someone could have an online life, but what I mean by that is interacting with the technology community and being able to help people through my videos and posts and different things like that. I do get out a lot, but I really would rather be somewhere with my computer than with friends, as long as I have the internet, I couldn’t be more happy. But back to the time management, as long as I schedule in some time for each thing, I should be able to accomplish anything. When it comes down to it, I think time management and organization are two skills important to anyone and can help you succeed at anything you do.

MobileMe

About 2 days ago, I thought I would buy myself a year subscription to MobileMe. At first it seems to be very expensive for the amount of stuff you really get, but in the long run, it is really useful and worth all the money. I told myself this year that if I got an iPhone, I would buy MobileMe, but if I didn’t, I wouldn’t buy it.

My reasons for that are very simple. MobileMe is great for your Mac or PC, just with the email, the online storage, and keeping your contacts and calendars are stored in the “cloud” to view anytime. So that is why, for me, MobileMe wouldn’t be as useful as I would like it to be for the price of $109.00 here in Canada.

But with the iPhone, you can have your MobileMe email with you at all time, all your calender, contacts, etc, are synced across all platforms, meaning if I update a contact on my Mac, it syncs to my iPhone and vise versa with all calendars, bookmarks, email accounts, etc. It also allows me to view what I have on my iDisk with the Free app from Apple, I can locate my iPhone right down to the street from the MobileMe website, I can remotely wipe my iPhone if it gets stolen, and the list goes on and on.

From what you can probably see now, is that if you have a iPhone, MobileMe is a lot more useful to you than just having a computer with your MobileMe account on it.

iPhone Wallpapers!

I have recently created another webpage just for the purpose of iPhone wallpapers. I know how much I love changing my iPhone wallpaper so I thought I would share all the ones I use with other people so they can enjoy them too. All you need to do is go to the right side of this website, and click on the picture of the iPhone at the top, it will then take you to another webpage of mine and there you can browse through and look for wallpapers you would use. Once you find the ones you want, you click on them and click download and then from them get them on your iPhone by whatever method you use. You can watch a video I made to learn a little bit more about it.
